January Under The Microscope

Goodevening, friends!

Since today is the last day of January (where did the month go?!) I figured I’d share favorite books, recipes, bloggers, vloggers, and movies that I discovered
this month.

Books

The Four Last Things by Fr. Wade Menezes

This book was a great read. I finished it within two days of starting it! Wow. So powerful. It was a great reminder of how to keep life in perspective. It was also a great reminder that judgement day is real. It will come whether we realize it or not...whether we are ready or not. It goes over the important concepts of sin and the necessity of repentance; the importance of making Heaven our goal on this earth; and the ever-so-disturbing hell. This book really reawakened my soul to the important concept and fact that this life will only last at the most 100(give or take some) years. Our main goal while on earth should be to live a life as pure as possible.. repenting and going to confession often, seeking God and following his commandments, putting God at the forefront of our thoughts and actions. This book was a great motivator in reminding me that earth is our temporary home, but eternity will last forever, and what we do here on earth impacts how we spend eternity-which I was aware of, but it's always beneficial
to be reminded of these things.

Eat Pretty Everyday by Jolene Hart

As I mentioned in another post, I went vegan at the end of December after reading and researching about the benefits and studies done on the positive impacts of a plant based diet. During that research I read The Vegan Started Kit & Eat Pretty, but within the last few weeks I started another book by the same author as Eat Pretty... Eat Pretty Everyday. It is divided into the four seasons, and each day of the season either gives motivation on staying healthy, a recipe, or benefits of a particular food. From the enchanting cover to the explicit advice, I find this book very beneficial for anyone desiring to improve their health. I haven’t finished it yet, I’ve only read through the “winter” portion of the book. I plan to start the spring section soon(or should I wait until spring comes...decisions!!).

Recipes!
*Fun Fact: So even though I have gone vegan, I still cook meat for my husband. I mainly use chicken and turkey meat. Turkey meat is very lean, doesn’t have the grease/fat content that ground beef does, and it is all around, a healthier choice.

Taco soup
So my husband's mom makes a mean taco soup that he absolutely loves. So I decided to try my hand at it, bearing in mind the cold-winter days we had ahead. To no avail, it came out very well! It’s super easy and you can buy the ingredients in bulk(since most of them are canned!) and they have a good shelf life/store well. I’ll link the recipe I use below :). Find Taco Soup Recipe Here

Newly-found vloggers (or youtubers)
So between the end of December and this month I have discovered two new you-tubers that inspire me in my Catholicism so much. They have encouraged me to deepen my faith and look at my vocation as a wife, mother, homemaker, and daughter of God in a whole new light.
I will link them below!

Music
Ok so the song I am about to share with you that I rediscovered this month (and forgot how much I loved it!) has been out for maybe 1-2 years(?). It’s core message encompasses the very meaning of life that everyone should strive for: Giving God control. It’s actually called “Control,” by Tenth Avenue North. They are such a good band! You should definitely give it a listen if you have time!

Update on my sweet boy, John Everett
His daddy and I are waiting for him to start crawling! We can’t wait. But I’m afraid he’s just not there yet. He can roll over and sit up confidently though... so he is making progress!!

Ok, those are the only highlights I have to share from the month of January! I hope that you all had a great start to the NEW YEAR. Please share some of your January favorites in the comments below :)!

God Bless,
~Adele~
